Hello Team,

I'm back from Hungary/Georgia. In Hungary, we came in 12th out of 25 teams in our division. I think it would have been higher if some people didn't have to cancel this trip. As far as Georgia is concerned, I am happy to announce that I made the Dragon Boat Team USA again. You can watch the World Championship on 9/13-9/16 via Livestream.

Well, enough about me.

The race that we have been training for is finally here.
I hope you all are drinking extra water this week and getting enough sleep.
Be sure to continue your cardio session also.

I am attaching the updated Race Packet and the Visitor Packet.
You can share the Visitor packet with your family and friends.

I also would like to know your preferential side ASAP.
Please answer by replying, LEFT, RIGHT, or BOTH.

Can anyone bring EZ-Up? We would like to extend our shades. Let me know if you can bring it so I can manage the list.
Please bring extra chair for family and guest if you can.

Lastly, please be on time since you will have to find parking and then walk over to the Marine Stadium.

Thank you.

See you at the race!

Hello Team,

As we head in to our last 2 practices of the season, I want share some info about the race. I am attaching the race packet & Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival Rules and Regulation which hopefully will have all the information you need for the race weekend. Read from front to back since it has lots of good information especially for the first timers.

I also have last homework for the season which will be very easy.
Let me know if you have done your home work for participation point.

HOME WORK!!!
Practice our race start
Practice our race start by imagining you are at the start line and hear “ARE YOU READY”…”ATTENTION”…***HORN or ANY OTHER SOUND*** then do 5 deep strokes motion, 16 ups (faster strokes but at the front only), and finally 10 deep strokes (Power 10).  Practice this 10 times.

Extra Practice is go through mentally for about 2 minutes pushing yourself at 70% and 100% during power 10s and boost.

BOOT CAMP!
There will also be participation point for those who attends boot camp sessions during the last 2 practices.

HUNGARY LIVE STREAM
Also, here's the link to the live stream for the 11th IDBF Club Crew World Championships in Szeged, Hungary.
https://www.sarkanyhajozas.hu/ccwc-live-stream

I'll be racing Tuesday 7/17 - Friday 7/20. Look for the team Long Beach Masters. Hungary is 9 hour ahead than California time. I don't have the exact time for the race though.

InspirASIAN Dragons - Midpoint Info & Home Work

Hello Team,

We are at about midpoint in our season already.
Please come out to all the remaining practices since our race is about month away.

I would like to order shirts and arrange the boat before I leave Club Crew World Championship race in Hungary.
Remember, I won't be at practice on 7/14 & 7/21 so I want to get it all done ASAP.
For those two days, Alex will be the captain in charge and Justin from Space Dragons will be the coach.

If you haven't done so, please do it this weekend. After this week, I will reach out to you individually.
  1. Donation for participation, $50
  2. Shirt - Size (specify Men or Women), $25
  3. Weight (real weight with your paddling gear on)
Thank you.

HOMEWORK

We'll have 2-part home work for this week and you have 2 weeks to do it.

Part 1: Cardio
Can you run/jog for 3 minutes?

Bronze: 4 mph
Silver: 5 mph
Gold: 6 mph
Platinum: 7 mph

Anything equivalent is also fine.

Part 2: General Fitness
You do not have to do all at one time but recommended.
Levels are there to motivate you. You know your body the best. Pick the one that will challenge your body.
Let’s do…Push-Up, Sit-Up, Squat, and Jumping Jacks (Ex: Bronze Level will be 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 = 80 total)

Bronze Level: 20 each
Silver Level: 30 each
Gold Level: 40 each
Platinum Level: 50 each

You can substitute the above exercises with set of Burpees then you do not have to do 4 separate exercises. (Ex: Bronze Level will be 20 Burpees) Anything equivalent is also fine.

With any exercises, we do recommend warming up.

After you complete one of the levels then you can either send me an email, post to our blog at http://apcadragons.blogspot.com/ or post to APCA Dragons Facebook by 7/13 Friday 6pm PT.

Thank you.

Follow up to InspirASIAN Dragons Update 6/5/18 & Home Work Email

Hello Team,

I have some few follow up items to share.

HOME WORK
I only received email from one person that they have done the homework so at this time.
You can send me an email when you complete your home work.

EXTRA CREDIT
DO NOT recommend going to Space Dragons practice this weekend 6/16 & 6/17 7:30am practice.
They will be doing RACE SETS. Which means about 4 to 5 500m races within 30-40 minutes.
Because of this, I recommend going after this weekend unless you like that.

TEAM JERSEY & WEIGHT
I would like to collect your shirt sizes ASAP so that I can prepare an order.
Let me know ASAP along with your weight (real).
Please let me know when your weight changes by the race time comes around if the difference is over 5 lbs.

Thank you all.

Timing!

InspirASIAN Dragons Update 6/6/18 & Home Work

Hello Team,

Thanks to those who attended the first practice of the season.

For AT&T employees.
Please join tSpace for InspirASIAN Dragons to share pictures, files, etc.
 https://tspace.web.att.com/communities/service/html/communityoverview?communityUuid=0a3b3b3e-21e6-43dd-b11e-259824d58561

Fitness Sessions:
We decided to include two boot camp session and one yoga session in our training which will be either before or after practice. I will share the dates when I have it available. I do not make this mandatory to attend but it is counted toward Participant Award points.

We do have date for yoga so bring your towel or mat on 6/23. We'll have 45 minutes of yoga to stretch out our muscle after the practice at 12:30pm.

Participation Awards:
During our race weekend, we award the team members with most points with first, second, and third place prizes. Each attendance to practice earn you one point (we require that you attend minimum of 4 practices). Each homework assignment, boot camp attendance, and extra credit assigned will each gets you one point. Who ever have the most point by the race will win prize.

EXTRA CREDIT opportunity:
We also have Extra Credit opportunity which you will earn point for the Participation Award.
To earn this point, you just need to attend one practice session with the year-round team by 7/8. (Space Dragons practice starts at 7:30am on Saturday and Sunday at the same location) Reason for this assignment is to give you different experience than paddling with InspirASIAN. By practicing with the folks who have been doing this for awhile will give you better perspective on how team paddles together. I think you will learn a great deal from just one practice. Don't be intimated since most likely you will be with other mostly beginner paddlers and coach will be working with you.

How to sign up for Space Dragons practice
It's easy!
Go to http://doodle.com/poll/rki2zfv8iirhah39 OR you can also access from http://www.spacedragons.org/ then go to Practice Poll.

Just put Your Name (InspirASIAN) then click on the date you will be attending.
That's it!

Team Jersey order:
We will need to get your size for the team jersey. Here's the sample picture. It's heather gray shirt with black accent on the side. (picture shows red)
Each jersey will be $25/each and you are helping with InspirASIAN fundraiser.
Size is comparable to REGULAR size from Under Armour. (It is not FITTED nor LOOSE)
Let me know what size you need!

Important Team Info:
We currently have 23 paddlers signed up and there were 18 paddlers for our first practice.
I am still waiting for more people to sign up since I need to decided if we need to register second boat for the tournament.
We would need minimum of 30 paddlers to have second boats so at this time I'm not sure if we will have enough for 2 teams.
This means that anyone after the first 20 people will be put on waiting list.

However...
Rather than putting people on waiting list here's what we should do if we have more than 20 members that will continue to the race.
I would like to get individual's commitment with confirmation of payment, which is tax deductible by the way.
If we get at least 30 people confirmed with payment then I'll order the second boat then we'll have one mixed boat and one corporate boat.
So...you can tell your coworkers/family and friends to join. Maximum will be 40 people which is 18 paddlers and up to 2 alternates per boat.

Corporate boat only does 500m races both days
Mixed boat does 500m & 200m races both days

This is YOUR team. We can make it happen.

Payment Info:
You can pay via check or cash this weekend 6/9 and thereafter.
If you prefer, you can also pay via Paypal or Venmo. I believe there's no extra charge for Venmo but PayPal has a convenience fee that is added.

You can look for my name & picture (I attached the pictures) Venmo: T-Yoo & PayPal: Thomas Yoo
Be sure to put "InspirASIAN Dragons Race Fee".

HOME WORK!!!

First home work is easy peasey.

You all learned the proper way to paddle now. Top arm by your head, bottom arm straight, twist to face your partner, etc...

Here's the video on how to paddle dragon boat.
First trainign session of the season and a great outline of the setup required for a solid dragon boat paddle technique.
www.youtube.com

This video shows slight bent on the top arm but I would say more bent is more comfortable for most of the people but you can do it whichever is feels comfortable.
She also pulls little too far back then what I would like.

Now, practice that form to the tune of Queen – We Will Rock You.

www.youtube.com
title says it all one of the greatest songs of all time!
This song has slow beat and it’s about 2 minutes.

Every clap should be hitting the water.

It is slow enough to really twist and stretch out.

Practice your form for the entire song for both left and right side for total of 4 minutes.

Please let me know via Email, Facebook, or comment on our blog.

Thank you.
