InspirASIAN - home work + info needed + next practice logistics

Hello Team,

Thank you those who came out to our fifth practice.

We tried little bit of what we call a “start”.

Start is especially important since we are at the dead stop and we need to lift up the boat as soon as possible and best way is to do power 4 then 16 up which is faster stroke and then another power 10.

Next homework is based on our start so keep on reading….

HOME WORK!!!

This week's homework will be in 2-parts since we were off for one week.

Part 1:  Race Start

Practice your race start by imagining you are at the start line and hear “WE HAVE AN ALIGNMENT” … “PADDLERS, ARE YOU READY” …” ATTENTION” …***HORN or ANY OTHER SOUND*** then do 4 deep strokes motion, 16 ups (faster strokes but at the front only), and finally 10 deep strokes (Power 10).  Practice these minimum ten times.

I posted the sample start video from last year’s practice for your reference. See it in our blog… https://apcadragons.blogspot.com/

Also on YouTube:  https://youtube.com/shorts/SAVrGWyNQ78?feature=share

Part 2: Cardio

Can you run/jog for 3 minutes?

Bronze: 4 mph

Silver: 5 mph

Gold: 6 mph

Platinum: 7 mph

Anything equivalent is also fine.

After you complete one of the levels then you can either send me an email or post to our blog at http://apcadragons.blogspot.com/ or post to Facebook by next Friday July, 21 6pm PT.

This will be counted toward the Participation Award.

INFO NEEDED!!!

  1. Weight: true weight with your paddling clothes on
  2. Side Preference: Left, Right, or Both
  3. Team Shirt size: XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL – Also need to choose Men or Women cut – Shirts are about $20.
  4. If you want to order InspirASIAN trucker hat also, it is also $20.

You do not have to purchase the team shirt if you do not want, however, need to find similar shirt from your closet. We prefer you to wear black bottom but not required.

This picture is from last year where you can see our shirts and hats.

NEXT PRACTICE LOGISTICS!!!

I will now be sending out EVITE invitation.

If you did not receive an EVITE invitation by Thursday morning, then please check your spam folder then let me know if you don’t see it.

Reason for the EVITE is that we now need to know who is coming to make sure we can make the roster for the boat.

This is important since we will be using the weight and side preference.

Schedule for 7/15/2013

10:15am-10:30am – Check-In

10:30am-10:40am – Warm up & line up.

10:40am-10:50am – Line up and Gear up.

10:50am-11:00am – Meet at boat & enter quickly.

11:00am-11:55am – On the water practice

11:55am-12:30pm – Bring up the boat and clean.

12:30pm-12:45pm – Cool down stretch

1:00pm – End of practice

That is enough for today.

Everyone should be attending the 2 remaining practices since it’ll be start and race practice.

For those who needs to make up the practice time, you will need to come at 7:30am to practice with Space Dragons and then InspirASIAN practice.

Thank you and see you at the beach.

InspirASIAN - July 4th Weekend - Home Work #2

Hello Team,

Thank you for those who showed up this weekend.

Here are couple pictures from this weekend.

There will be no InspirASIAN practice this coming Saturday, July 1, 2023 due to being July 4th holiday weekend.

We hope all of you enjoy safe and sane July Forth.

You can still come out to practice on July 1 if you want to get some practice done.

Space Dragons practice is at 7:30am on Saturday and Sunday. On the water from 8am to 8:55am.

If not then, I will see all of you on next Saturday, July 8,.

More point opportunity.

Home Work #2: General Fitness

You do not have to do these all at one time but recommended.

Levels are there to motivate you. You know your body the best. Pick the one that will challenge your body.

Let’s do…Push-Up, Sit-Up, Squat, and Jumping Jacks (Ex: Bronze will be 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 = 80 total)

Bronze Level: 20 each

Silver Level: 30 each

Gold Level: 40 each

Platinum Level: 50 each

You can substitute the above exercises with set of Burpees.

Then you don’t have to do 4 separate exercises. (Ex: Bronze will be 20 Burpees, Silver will be 30 Burpees)

Anything equivalent is also fine.

After you complete one of the levels then you can either send me an email or post to our blog at http://apcadragons.blogspot.com/ or post to InspirASIAN Dragons Facebook at InspirASIAN Dragons Dragon Boat Team or post to InspirASIAN Dragons Instagram @INSPIRASIAN_DRAGONS or Twitter @APCA_Dragons by 7/6 Thursday 6pm PT.

You will receive 1 point for this home work.

FYI: There are 2 people currently on top tied at 6 points.

Thank you all for your dedication and see you on the water.

InspirASIAN Dragons - Home Work #1

 Hello Team,

Great improvement this past Saturday.

We have another participation point opportunity with the home work.

I don’t have email for Oliver Pacifico, Michael Alvarez, Macy Chen & Nathan Chen so if you know their email address then please share with them.

First home work should be easy.

You all learned the proper way to paddle now. Top arm by your head, bottom arm straight, twist to face your partner, etc.

Here's the video reminder.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7lRbj3K8c4

Now, practice that form to the tune of Queen – We Will Rock You.

Queen - We Will Rock You (Official Video) - YouTube

This song has slow beat and it’s about 2 minutes.

Every clap should be hitting the water.

It is slow enough to really twist and stretch out.

Practice your form for the entire song for both left and right side for total of 4 minutes.

Please let me know via Email, Facebook, Instagram or comment on our blog.

You have until next Wednesday (6/21) to complete this home work.

Our next (THIRD) practice for InspirASIAN  Dragons is on 6/17/23

Our next practice will be on 6/17/23. I will not be attending this practice due to another engagement.

Alex and Nancy will be leading the team for the day.

Also remember to come early and check-in so that you get credit for attendance.

Please contact me if you have any questions and look for latest info in our blog http://apcadragons.blogspot.com, Facebook: InspirASIAN dragons Dragon Boat Team and on Twitter: APCA_Dragons, and Instagram: inspirasian_dragons.

If you are receiving this email but should not or do not want to continue for this year then let me know.

Thank you.

Hello Team,

Thank you for those attending our first practice of the year to learn the basic of dragon boating.

Next practice, we’ll build on that basic to go little further and do some more drills.

Take a look at this video on paddling dynamics and try to mimic this movement. I leave it up to the person how much to bend the upper arm since everyone has comfort spot.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wv_4PDz_KWM

I also introduce participation award for those who have the most points.

Every attendance, home work (coming soon), extra practice with year-round team counts as a point.

Whoever has the most point will win the award on the race day.

We were short few PFD/Life jacket at the first practice. If you have your own, please bring it to the practice.

Here’s who attended the first practice which counts as one point.

Also, your name doesn’t have check mark next to your name under waiver, please do it now.

Instruction is below.

See you this weekend!

Thank you.
